The sound of autumn, and heartbreak, is here with Tom LeFlore's latest release "Lie That You Love Me." Some may be familiar with his role in indie rock band THE JACKS, making it no surprise his standalone ability and immense talent. This release follows his single "If You Were to Leave Me," a mellow tune with some jazzy flares following the fear and pain of losing someone you love.

"Lie That You Love Me" takes listeners on a journey of heartbreak and longing. Drawing inspiration from a recent love interest that didn't work out, LeFlore includes lyrics like "Well Maybe you could lie that you love/ I bet that's better than the truth," one can feel the anguish pulsating from it. The sunny instrumental, lo-fi vibe of the song contrasts with oozy vocals and heartsick lyrics to really connect with the listener and paint a vivid image of loss and longing. Many can relate to this feeling of rather having someone lie than ultimately lose them altogether, though it hurts either way in the end. LeFlore takes his distress and translates it into a poetic piece of artwork, craftily weaving crooning vocals with spare backings to enhance the smoothness of his voice for a calming, entrancing tune. Personally, I will be adding this to my songs to cry to playlist.

"Lie That You Love Me" and "If You Were to Leave Me" precede LeFlore's upcoming album My Life, My Love, & My Fantasy. Producing both songs in his West Hollywood bedroom, the songs also serve as a testament to will and creativity as art can be made anywhere. The change from working with other band members to being a solo artist can be assumed to be challenging and probably a bit scary, but LeFlore is already cleary rising to the occasion and establishing himself well. Through his vulnerable lyrics and storytelling, he is able to connect with listeners. Sometimes when listening to artists, they feel "far away" in that they're not personable, or lyrics have nothing to do with your own life, but with only two songs, LeFlore has already proved he is not that kind of musician. With lo-fi beats and R&B influences, his songs are also just a great backdrop to pretty much any thing. Studying or getting work done? Listen to Tom LeFlore. Falling in love? He's got something for you. Weeping and feeling despaired from the depths of your soul? Don't worry, there's a soundtrack for that too. I am excited to see what's next for him, and of course for his eventual album release.
